Many medical students participate in informal learning and professional development outside of the medical school, often extending the time needed to complete medical school in the process. The MedBiquitous Educational Trajectory Profile extends the LEAP2A specification for e-portfolios. The profile provides a consistent format for describing the path of an individual learner through one or more programs of study, including informal professional development and breaks in matriculation. The Educational Trajectory is designed to increase the ability of medical schools and national organizations to understand and compare individual learners’ trajectory as well as assess trends in educational trajectory within or across medical schools.
The illustration includes codes for curricular and non-curricular activities as well as color-based representations of full-time academic study, part-time academic study, academic problems, pursuit of other academic paths, breaks in matriculation, extracurricular activities, community service, and noteworthy clinical experiences.
