Use Data to Drive Improvement

MedBiquitous Standards allow organizations to create connections and work better together. Our standards let you connect data and share content across organizations to increase efficiency, drive improvement, and map the curriculum.

By creating a common language for describing content and activities, MedBiquitous allows accreditors, government agencies, regulators, and educators to compile data from constituents for benchmarking and improvement. The Association of American Medical Colleges is using MedBiquitous standards to collect curriculum data from medical schools in the US and Canada, which provides a rich source of data for reports on medical school curricula.

The Accreditation Council for Medical Education (ACCME) uses MedBiquitous standards in its Program and Activity Reporting System (PARS) to collect program and activity data from accredited continuing medical education providers. In addition, the standard has been used by accreditors of continuing education and a consortium of extended-release and long-acting (ER/LA) opioid analgesics companies to bring together data about FDA Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies (REMS) compliant CE programs from across the health professions.

MedBiquitous standards also enable broad sharing of content across organizations. The European-Commission funded eViP program leveraged the Virtual Patient standard in its development of a shared bank of 340 virtual patients for use across Europe (see http://www.virtualpatients.eu/).

Curriculum Inventory facilitates the exchange and aggregation of data about health professions curriculum across the continuum of professional education and training. It enables the aggregation of curriculum data for research and benchmarking.

The Financial Interest Specification enables the exchange of data about an individual's financial interests and other information required for disclosures.

Healthcare Learning Object Metadata (Healthcare LOM) provides a standard way to describe learning activities and content, making it possible to maximize the value of your content and connect to the broader community of healthcare educators.

Virtual Patients are interactive computer programs that simulate real life clinical scenarios for educational purposes. The MedBiquitous Virtual Patient standard (MVP) enables the exchange of virtual patients across systems and institutions.

The Experience API (xAPI) lets applications share data about human performance. MedBiquitous xAPI profiles enable interoperability across healthcare simulation and clinical training tools.

Medical Education Metrics (MEMS) provides a standard format for CE outcomes data, allowing educators to bring outcomes data together across systems and organizations for better research.
